X-POLLINATION (2025)
a eco-queer performance study with with Koki’o ‘ula (Hawaiian red hibiscus) and nalo meli (honey bee) on Honaunau, Island of Hawai’i.
The performance navigates mana (energy rich centers) in the body as access points for re-narrating the social expectations of fertility. I use the the anatomy of hibiscus flower to demonstrate genital in-betweenness in third gender populations (māhū), with stamen and petals as refectory to the spiritual inheritance of carrying both phallus and yoni. The performance occurs after being gifted a bee sting in between the left big toe and second toe (Tai Chong, Liver 3 point in Traditional Chinese Medicine, used for flushing emotional and digestive constipation).
